  • Good morning dear all, I'm very interested in this kind of hardware.

Yesterday I bought a 2nd-hand "4K Ultra-HD Sport Cam" to my son, here is the data:

    Product:
    fuxin4k15imx179-sdv
    Manufacturer:
    fjj
    FW date:
    20160111
    Camera name:

    Version:
    20160111V03
    LCD model:
    ili9341
    LCD resolution:
    320x240
    Sensor model:
    imx179

Do you think the 20161125V10 firmware for Crane/Wimius can work on it?

It has the skier boot logo and a 20160111V03 stock firmware.

I was able to get the 'full_img.fex' (11.776Kb) with some procedures studied on youtube.

In case something could be wrong, can I recover the camera with this backuped firmware?

Thank you very much in advance, best regards, sincerely, effesse72.

hello effesse72 . please share your firmware file here via dropbox or google-drive.

Do you think the 20161125V10 firmware for Crane/Wimius can work on it?
      - no. because your camera is Fuxin. but you can try it anyway. it can't hurt.

In case something could be wrong, can I recover the camera with this backuped firmware? - yes. watch this video tutorial https://youtu.be/fdjEcRlpYTU?t=737 from time 12:17 and follow the steps. You will need to download tools and recovery drivers (not ADB) from this link http://bit.ly/2gWE9KP . Let me know if you want help.

Thank you very much Petesimon, I'm arranging a firmware sharing here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bo6cxjka7s...ackup.zip?dl=0
Please let me know if the backup is made in good enough to recover the camera in worst cases. Best regards, effesse72.

effesse72 you're welcome. thanks for your firmware backup. I downloaded it and unpacked it. yes, your firmware file "full_img.fex" can be used as shown in the video tutorial in comment #301.1 to recover your camera AND to flash any other firmware file on page 1 in post #8. You can try any other firmware under the IMX179 heading. You can also change the LCD driver name in any firmware by using data from your original firmware. But most likely only Fuxin and Beike firmware files will work.

Hello Jose. I'm Pitr on facebook. Your 2-system.img file is 4.27 MB size so your camera may have a V3S SoC processor. But nutsey and everyone, I can't unpack 2-system.img using unsquashfs.exe or squashfs_unmake.bat . I get the error Can't find a SQUASHFS superblock on UNFEX\2-system.img.
      I'm using this unfex-refex pack https://www.dropbox.com/s/fnb4c3ypxy...pdate.zip?dl=0
      Whats happening?

At least I got script.bin and script.fex so I can read that sensor is IMX179 and LCD is st7789v. Sensor is not imx179s as you see above.
Here is text from script.fex (script.bin).
      Code:
      lcd_driver_name = "st7789v_boe"
      vip_dev0_mname = "imx179"
      -------------------------------------
*EDIT* got it now. Hm there is something strange is happening when using 'getfwinfo' script or 'unfex' script on the given full_img.fex file. So instead I unpacked again the backup.zip file into UNFEX folder and used only 'squashfs_unmake.bat' script file. The good 2-system.img file should 4915200 bytes size.

      download 2-system.img - https://www.dropbox.com/s/bgwjevxxs0...crane.zip?dl=0

squashfs_unmake.bat from GETFWINFO v0.4 works and unpacks 2-system.img for me

This firmware is really strange: UI text strings say it's dated 20170426, MiniGUI config shows 20150610 and build.prop is somewhere in between - 20160304...

petesimon According to its specs V3s SoC supports sensors up to 5MP, so we can be sure it's V3 if we see IMX179 in script.fex

nice. since i'm clumsy at scripting, I'm unsure how to improve your 'getfwinfo.bat' auto script. it again spits so many errors with this small full_img.fex file. so I ran the unfex_v3s.cmd script and got the partitions files in UNFEX folder.

hm, why can't i unsquash this small 2-system.img file?
      Code:
      C:\Allwinner\squashfs_tools\unsquashfs.exe -l C:\Allwinner\UNFEX\2-system.img
      Can't find a SQUASHFS superblock on C:\Allwinner\UNFEX\2-system.img
Could we use a tool like 'binwalk' https://github.com/devttys0/binwalk or 'sasquatch' https://github.com/devttys0/sasquatch to help?
      .
I also found this tidbit in script.fex (script.bin). But I thought the 'Product' in fwinfo.txt file usually matches the 'machine' in script.fex. ya?
      Code:
      machine = "huaguo-sdv"

I need to modify both backup and unpacking scripts...

It should check each partition size with 'cat /sys/class/block/mtdblockX/size' command alongside with the backup process in order to provide correct unpacking data for getfwinfo/unfex scripts.

Your 2-system.img is not unsquashing because its size does not match one set for V3s FWs.

This firmware is the real Frankenstein

nutsey hm you read my mind - I mean that yesterday I pondered over how the small full_img.fex and large full_img.fex are internally different. and thought what are the partitions' (mtd block) sizes and offsets of the small full_img.fex (for V3s ?).

is this a structure ? ... but I'm looking for the start 'n stop in hex like in an old post on page 1 of this thread.
      Code:
      0-uboot 262 144
      1-boot 2 490 368
      2-system 4 980 736
      3-config 524 288
      4-logo 65 536
      5-env 65 536
      6-full_img_fex 8 388 608
      .

so inside unfex_v3s.cmd script, there is this command (without sript code) to extract 2-system.img for small fex (v3s):
      Code:
      sfk partcopy full_img.fex 0x2F0000 4587520 UNFEX\2-system.img
      .
and for this 'Frankensteeen' odd firmware, i figure I would change 4587520 to 4980736, yes? but my math is terrible, especially hex. I'm an english teacher. so what is the right hex offset value?

also, could you please add the start/stop structure of the small full_img.fex (V3s) to your post on page 1. thanks.

by the way, I really like the auto magic button such as the 'getfwinfo' auto script when someone like you provides it, hehe

this sfk command worked using hex start offset 0x2A0000 with byte size 4980736.
      Code:
      sfk -yes partcopy full_img.fex 0x2A0000 4980736 UNFEX\2-system.img
      .
and unsquashfs works fine without errors
      Code:
      squashfs_tools\unsquashfs.exe -s UNFEX\2-system.img

hello. welcome. thanks for using the rar5 backup script https://www.dropbox.com/s/m9rmzo7azb...press.zip?dl=0
M Andoer (Fuxin) camera is quite similar. In addition to the info shown above, your SoC is V3. If you want to experiment with flashing different firmware that has IMX179S, then you can look to page 1 post #8 of this thread and try other Fuxin, LCD ST9341 firmware. And you could change the LCD name of some Fuxin, LCD ST7789/v to your LCD so that it would work in your camera. Be aware these things: some newer 2017 firmware may break your Wifi, and some other firmware may not have the "White LED" feature in settings, and some firmware may have different bitrates (video only), different resolution for "4k" mode, and different frame-rates (including frame doubling and/or frame duplicating).

Your LCD is st9341 so I extracted "script.bin" descriptor file from this firmware: Fuxin, 2016-04-29, 20160507V03, IMX179s, st7789v and wrote the data to your firmware so that my LCD in my Andoer (fuxin) camera would work. It mostly works, but I think some video modes are unstable and causing a "flickering".

        download - link here

*EDIT* and that but with an "Andoer" logo
        download - link here

*Note: people will need Winrar (unrar) version 5.00 or better to open the .rar files

Thank for your patient explaination! Now I would like to modify my original firmware to add some different frame-rates (like 720P/ 120f) or adjust audio bitrate. And I've read some thredd (https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/thread...amdroid.20507/ and https://www.goprawn.com/forum/allwin...available-here ), but still don't know how to proceed it. There are so many things to learn.
        Hope I can succeed soon!

    • petesimon : Good morning dear Petesimon, I played with some firmware files in this week end. Now my "fuxin4k15imx179-sdv" sport camera doesn't work anymore. When I start it on, it shows black screen, with only blue led, the amber Wi-Fi led always turned on but the worst thing is that I'm not able to recover it with the backup I've done. Very weird situation... I'm tring to use Phoenix Suite 1.10 with F60B recovery drivers. Maybe I'm forgotting something? Can I use a TV set with HDMI port to read the LCD on the big screen and try to upgrade the firmware with the full_img.fex file? TIA again, best regards, effesse72.

            yes

            1 get this unfex-refex-getfwinfo-etc scripts pack https://www.dropbox.com/s/fnb4c3ypxy...pdate.zip?dl=0

2 unpack that scripts file to a new folder. also put your "full_img.fex" from backup of your factory original firmware in the same folder. now run (double-click) unfex.bat script file and scriptbin_read.bat script file.

3 download from goprawn another allwinner v3 firmware file and unpack it to another new folder.

4 copy the "script.bin" file from your factory original firmware folder to the other goprawn firmware folder. now run scriptbin_write.bat script file. a new "full_img.fex" firmware file will be made.

5 you can try to flash firmware to your camera from full_img.fex on an SD CARD. but usually for me it becomes stuck. so I use 'makeimg' tool and Phoenixsuit tool. watch this tutorial from time 13:53 https://youtu.be/QrTxFjIiHvc?t=833

I might have done something wrong (although) i doubt it because I ended up with a black screen.
Also seen another firmware that seemed to be compatible and had xradio wi-fi, but that was a dead end too. Got stuck on xdv boot logo.

and after that, you need to be sure that another firmware has the right sensor imx179 / imx179S / or OV4689. and then you can change the LCD name. but follow the steps carefully and slowly in comment #308.1

          • Hi,

I've bought a MGCOOL Explorer Pro recently, but it was not working correctly. The camera was constantly freezing up and rebooting by itself. It is an Allwinner V3 chip, and the firmware version shown in the camera was ExplorerProV1.0, Updated: 20170515

I've contacted the customer service of MGCOOL, stating the issues and checking whether was there a new version of firmware that I can flash. The customer service was quick to acknowledge that a new version of the firmware would solved the issue and emailed me the new version. It was in an 'IMG' file, and further query on how to install the firmware was unanswered.

After much searching of the web, I've landed up on this page. And after watching the YouTube video by Petesimon on how to backup the Allwinner V3 4k Action Camera Firmware and flash new firmware, I managed to follow all the steps successfully and flash to the new version given by MGCOOL's customer service. PhoenixSuit showed that this was a 20 May 2017 version.

However, this version was still not very stable and the camera would freeze and reboot occasionally.

Checking post #8 for other versions, I re-flashed it with the "Crane (MGCOOL boot logo) 2017-06-02" version. This version caused the screen to flip. I then tried another version with XDV logo, but the screen flip another way. I then tried the Surfer Logo version and this time ended in disaster. While the PhoenixSuit was updating the firmware, instead of the camera rebooting to the new firmware, the screen became totally black.

Now the camera looks like totally bricked! I cannot press the up arrow and plug in the USB cable to flash with PhoenixSuit. All the buttons are not working. The only thing I observed is that the top blue LED will blink once when the USB cable is plug in, and the red charging LED still blink when I insert the battery while the USB cable is connected.

Do note that while flashing with the other versions, I have encountered the 'White screen' brick. And I've followed Petesimon's steps to use PhoenixSuit to reflash it correctly. So all the drivers needed have been installed.

I've read through all the 21 pages in this thread, and can't seems to find any solution to unbrick this camera when it has the black screen.

Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Or is my camera gone for good?

            Thanks.

The flipped screen is actually no problem. There is an option in the menu that corrects it.
petesimon posted a video that will help you with the getting stuck problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdjEcRlpYTU

              Hi Overrid3:
Sad that the black screen stuck problem cannot be resolved with the method shared by Petesimon.

              Hi Petesimon:
I've uploaded the original backup of the firmware, and the updated version that was given by the customer service of MGCOOL into the Dropbox. The camera is still bricked, hopefully you can provide some pointers to unbrick it.

              Thanks.

AhTan - i think the cam has a hardware problem or it's just really "broken". can you return it to the seller or get a refund?

          • Hi,

First of all, hello everybody, I'm new in this forum and I'm here because I have a problem with my camera, which I don't know exactly what is it.

So, I bought this camera and I used it for a couple days. After a while, when I was trying to turn on the camera it didn't show any signs of life. I connected to the power supply and only a red light shown off. I searched about it on the internet but I wasn't able to find out what the problem was. I tried to connect it without the battery to a pc, but nothing happened. After 5 months I was getting rid of the damn camera and decided to give it a last chance. I connected the camera without battery to my pc and the camera went back to life. I did came back, but only for a couple more day (two I think). Now it is dead again. Sometimes the camera won't turn on with the battery, but connected to the pc it did a few times. The only thing that happens is that when connected to the power supply, it turns a red light on, but only with the battery inside.

I'm not able to connect it to my pc, for example, has only that light urns on. I don't know what this is, and it is strange that the light turns on, but the camera don't. Even more strange is that the camera was dead for months and worked fine for two days last week...

So, if anyone could help, I would appreciate very much. Thank you.

the hardware is faulty or damaged. a similar camera "F60B" also from Gearbest I used was mounted on a drone and crashed into a tree real bad and another day a friend drown the cam into water, but it still works. So I suggest that you return yours to the seller, or get a $ refund or ask the seller to exchange it for another camera.

I already applied for a refund, they only gave me a partial one. Sending the camera back to China and supporting the shipping costs wasn´t a real option so I accepted the refund and another camera is on it's way to me.

Fun thing about all this episode. After I posted the comment I was able to revive it. So, the camera is in a position of working when it want's to work. Now is working just fine, I don't know why. Anther thing I notice was that, opening the device manager, I was able to see a 'unknown device' when the camera was connected without signs of life. But for now it is working. If it continues to work some more days, I might try to update the firmware just too see what happens.

              Thanks.

I bought an andoer AN4000 and I thought I could have AV out by the usb, actually connected to pc, it transmits live, but in the menu it does not have the possibility to transmit for FPV, and use it live on my drone. Someone knows if changing the software of another camera, for example the SJ400, Heken, etc. That if you have that possibility .... my camera will work? thank you very much to all. (Sorry for my English, is a translator).

Hello Alexpress . Thanks for your backup file. Currently, all cameras that have an Allwinner V3 (or V3s) chip inside do NOT support analog TV video out. Software will not change this fact. Here is your firmware info:
                Code:
                SoC:
                   Allwinner V3

                   craneimx179-sdv
                Manufacturer:
                   yj
                Short id:
                   zhongxing
                OEM id:
                   zhongxing
                Camera type:
                   lt609zh
                FW orig. date:
                   20170502
                FW mod. date:
                   20170502
                Camera name:
                   (AN4000)
                Version:
                   20170502V3.3
                LCD model:
                   st7789v
                LCD resolution:
                   320x240
                LCD count:
                   1
                Sensor model:
                   imx179
                Logo:
                   XDV
Also note, your firmware uses "xradio" kernel modules (drivers) for wifi.

            • Many thanks Petesimon, I was afraid of his answer. Since I was only looking for a cheap camera for that option and I was wrong. It is very difficult to find a cheap camera with that possibility, since the Chinese specifications, do not include it clearly. Which one advises me that I had that option or could be done by software?

some cameras around $50 to $60 USD that have a Novatek 96660 main processor that are a kind of SJCAM clone may have analog TV out for FPV support in the USB port. I suppose the cable that works for a real SJCAM 4000 will work for the clones. I got this cam http://ali.onl/COL for $49, and this other cam http://ali.onl/COQ for $60

The settings screen shows "TV out". * Note: this may be for HDMI digital out, or it may be for USB analog av out. Not sure....
                Please investigate....

            • Hi everybody.I bought from TOMTOP seller 2 cameras for a project:

              https://www.tomtop.com/sport-cameras-282/p-d3144b.html
              https://www.tomtop.com/sport-cameras-282/p-d3144b.html

Because the cameras are way away regarding image quality ,I followed the tutorials from here and I tried to update in a way the firmware.Tried as many as 20 files with no change. They are not compatible with ayithing here.Wanted a new firmware because this one has almost no colours ,they are fade and not natural.

              Any Ideas?
