  • EKEN v8s 14MP with Stabilization (EIS) in 4k

This camera has the same processor as H8 Plus, but with EIS in 4k mode.
    Some info on it here:

    http://elproducente.com/eken-v8s-sta...review-manual/
    Currently goes for $120.

Does anyone know if replacing the 170° lens with a 90° Lens will cause the EIS to produce unwanted jitters?

There will be noticeable distortion in the corners when panning.

I believe here we need to modify warp correction table values.

no correction at all would be fine with the 90° lenses I suppose, right?

      official firmware update 20170518

      download - http://ftp.eken.com/V8s_eken_20170518-WEB.rar

mirror copy (smaller file) - https://www.dropbox.com/s/agao7u7txo....rar5.rar?dl=0

*** you may need Winrar (unrar) version 5.00 or better from http://rarlab.com to open this file ***

I got the update notice via a Facebook message. I guess Eken likes me

      Instructions:

      Code:
Please note there are two versions of V8s

      EKHK or EKTH

Please make a note which one you have. This will be important to update the SSID files

      1. Prepare two micro SD memory cards.

      2. Format both cards and prepare for use

      3. Unzip V8s_eken_20170518-WEB.rar then open file folder “card update”, copy AmbaSysFW.bin into first formatted card.

      4. With camera off, insert memory card with AmbaSysFW.bin file, and turn on camera. It will ask to update, select YES.
During the update, the screen will be off, camera will turn back on once update is successful. Please select NO for firmware update, and turn off camera.

      5. REMOVE micro SD from the camera. Reset camera in settings.

      6. Open folder SSID Update EKTH or EKHK (make sure it is same as your current version), and copy folder MISC into second formatted memory card.
With camera off, insert the memory card, and turn on camera for update. Please wait for camera to turn on again to complete update. Remove SD
card once update is successful. With card removed, select RESET on camera.

schnurbi - bad like "good". or bad like bad?
yeah, share unedited / unprocessed VIDEO samples please
you can use Avidemux to stream cut the video files. select output format mp4 or mkv, and select "copy" for video, and you may need to select an Audio codec such as "AAC FDK".

      sure.
      v8s:

      H8 Plus:

The Panasonic sensor is worse in color and sensitivity, and the internal processing looks like 2.7k to me at most.

wow. i really do see a difference. I guess Eken is trying to sell bad cameras at lower prices to the masses. H8s with Ambarella chip is probably another cheap example. Oh why did they discontinue their good cameras like H9 Plus / H8 Plus...

yeah better to switch to thieye or firefly for the future. On the plus side, the march firmware of h8 plus seems almost stable.

yeah. I'm using march 20170301 firmware in my H8 plus. i can't notice the difference between that and the factory STD 201702xx (whatever the date was).

and when looking for other nice cameras, don't leave out real SJCAM with Ambarella chips.

Not too great a loss..... since you've already got one ... LoL

probably because they aren't selling (?)

Eken are known for the H9 @ it's price point, people don't want to pay more than US$50,
ones who are after a better cam, are presumably looking elsewhere .... especially at brands who have a development team / community (?)

        yeah. i can understand.
but often the H9 video looks like Andoer/Wimius/Campark/F60 (Allwinner V3) video.
I don't want that anymore, but I want something at least a little better like a Soocoo C30 or Firefly 7s (with Novatek)

Then look at the Xiaomi Mijia
      Raw and jpg simultaneously
It's under development still but lots of work being done
      All main functions stable.

With coupon can get for about US$80 ...
      MINUS waterproof case though
I major downside, but not a deal breaker ... No HDMI connection

HACKABLE with scripts (how much is beyond me sorry)

Eken keeps producing Frankenstein action cams. Here comes Eken H5s which is based on V8s main PCB and uses sensor PCB with IMX078 from H8 Pro.

that looks like the a V8s or a remade H8 Plus. but another H5s (no "plus") from Banggood looks like this

regardless, I am avoiding to buy any Eken cameras.... mainly because there are so many other and possibly better choices

No, more likely V8 and H6s are similar

          H5s, now .... H5s plus ... Seems more like H8pro. (Although I can't remember offhand exact specs)
-H5s plus now has front screen,

EIS on 4k/30 . ...this has been removed from specs
          2.7k/60 now (I think)

Problem with Eken is, all they're doing is mix and matching components for "new" cams
they are not keeping up with menu options - like other cams, essentially just EV +/- and a touch screen
