I'm seriously thinking pre order, what more things we (you) can expect from this camera?... You've already bought it?...Maybe a next one version with a front LCD?

I guess we can expect frequent firmware updates in order to get all out from A12+IMX117 set. And I don't have it yet...

I'm wondering if I should go with the Firefly 8S or Yi. Would YiMAX-PRO script work on Firefly as it has the same SOC and sensor?

YiMAX-PRO works with Xiaomi Yi (XiaoYi) camera which is based on A7 chip. Firefly 8S uses much more advanced A12 SoC capable recording up to 4K 30 and FullHD 120 video.

Hi nutsey, is there any way of getting that flat YiMAX-PRO look out of Firefly 8S or any camera with A12 SoC?

Yes. There is a way to get it by modding a firmware, not by a script.

Hi, I have preordered one of these cameras (at banggood.com) and I would like to know links for a wired microphone (preferably in stereo, but compact one) and a generic bluetooth (other than Xiaomi). Not hurry, but let's see if we all find something?

There is hard to find one microphone with micro USB directly...

This Firefly S8 looks really tempting.

What do you think, will it support scripting?
Here is an example I have on mind (from my old Xiaomi Yi):
                Code:
                while true
                do
                        #    1276=1/125s -->
                        t ia2 -ae exp 0 1276 0
                        lu_util exec 'sleep 0.1'
                        t app key shutter
                        t app key shutter_rel
                        lu_util exec 'sleep 1.9'

                        #    1404=1/251s -->
                        t ia2 -ae exp 0 1404 0
                        lu_util exec 'sleep 0.1'
                        t app key shutter
                        t app key shutter_rel
                        lu_util exec 'sleep 1.9'
                done
It is a time lapse (while-do) and alternates between 1/125s and 1/250s photos at roughly 2s interval (couldn't get it faster on Xiaomi).

                  We can use
                  t ipc rpc clnt exec2
                  instead of
                  lu_util exec
                  for A12 cams.

                  And we can also
                  t app key shutter

But all commands to control exposure (and almost everything else) seem to be fully disabled by default in current Ambarella EVKs.

                  Many thanks nutsey!
That is a good starting point.

But what a bummer about rigidity of A12!
If I understand correctly unless there is at least ISO option in the camera menu, I will not be able to control anything?

                  Ufff, what is an alternative?
Maybe buy something else (<200$) and find some FOV<100deg good lens? Does that sound feasible?

Is EIS available in 4k? Can the EIS be turned off?

Resolution seems lower in 4k mode, compared to cameras like the H8 Plus.
