  • Hisilicon SoC based H.265 action cams.

We already have (available from online retails) several Hisilicon-based action camera products capable recording H.265 videos like Mobius 2 (Hi3516A) and XM Warrior G1/G1S (Hi3516D).

So, another one with more common action cam design is here:

It uses a Hisilicon SoC (model is not confirmed yet, seems to be one of Hi3519 V100/V101 family) which can record up to 4K30 video, uses H.265 codec and provides Gyro stabilization.

As we can see X2K+ action camera is based on Hisilicon 3559 SoC and uses 16MP Panasonic MN34120 sensor. X2K+ has standard form-factor and can record up to 4K30 with H.265 codec. It also supports 6-axis gyro image stabilization.

Hisilicon Hi3559 V100 SoC Brief PDF

    Here are Its key features:
    • Can encode 4K30 + FulHD30 or 2K30 + 2K30 simultaneously with H.265 codec
    • Dual-sensor configuration supported
    • [email protected] fps RAW video output
    • Low power consumption - 1.25W during video recording at max specs
    • Linux+Huawei LiteOS dual-system heterogeneous architecture
    • Burst shooting mode: 16MP @ 15fps (JPEG)
    • Video bitrate up to 100Mbit/s, CBR or VBR

Hi3559 SoC also supports 13MP 1/3" Sony IMX258 sensor (brief)
This sensor supports up to 4208x3120 resolution at 30 fps framerate. So, Hi3559+IMX258 cams might record video in true 4K30.

Well, we need an action cam with a 32MP sensor first

So, there is a 3559 SoC, AND one identified with the suffix A? Update:
..just on HIsilicon site ..Lists under 3559AV100 the two A73 cores at 2 GHz, and the A 53's at 1.5 GHz, and no fifth core, is there another offering?

nutsey, that footage looked outstanding. Makes me wonder if it has been tweaked.. If that new chipset is capable of producing such well balanced and sharp images... I think the bar just got raised. Now I am going to have to go looking for youtube stuff about that chipset

I guess it's already good enough if this platform provides the promised quality-to-bitrate ratio for h.265 codec.

There is another "light" version of this SoC - Hi3556 V100 Brief Datasheet

It encodes H.265 up to 2k30/FHD60 resolution.

Thanx! But the price seems to be rather high. I believe Hi3559 cams should cost around $75 (retail price).

Another Hi3559 SoC-based action cam. Now 12MP Sony IMX377 sensor support is claimed.

There are several other Hisilicon products can be found on this site:
              Hi3559 UAV/drone camera,
Hi3556 dashcam that looks very similar to Yi Smart Dash Camera,
Hi3559 action camera that looks very similar to Yi Lite action cam.

I'm going to get one in a couple of days. Do you know about its limitations with GPS? No time sync. No speed/location.

nutsey Even my old iON Adventure had GPS Elevation, speed, distance, location and synced to vid upload to Kinomap.. Not sure GPS does anything on this but ADAS.

As it is a GPS "module" can't see why they would have any difficulty utilising it? Good if they do.
