  • How to replace M12 lens with something bigger.

Almost all of modern action cams are equipped with S-mount (M12) lenses. These lenses show pretty decent size-quality-price ratio and mostly fit consumer needs without making cams bulky. But real action cam geeks like me don't want to bear with any limitation. So let's see how we can get rid of our door peephole lens. There are several products on the market and they aimed for the use with GoPro products, so it goes beyond the limits imposed by mainstream consumers who are not ready to exceed their budget. Now I'm searching for low-cost cam capable of easy swapping S-mount to another mount (C/CS f.e.). The idea is to find a cam that will allow the sensor PCB displacement outside the camera case and installing a standard C/CS-mount lens holder on it. Case PCB mounting adapter can be 3D-printed.

Do you mean moving the lens closer to the sensor?

reduce the length of the mount on the action camera from the back

Thank you. I have a M39 lens mount and a couple of lenses for it. So this mount has 28.8mm of flange focus distance and I think it will fit without cutting anything.

t is difficult to find an M12 to CMount adapter in Indonesia that way is just desperate. Small sensor mirrorles kit lenses can be applied even though the lowest focal for the landscape is less extensive. in my photo is Olympus EPL1 kit lens

I have a couple of M39 film rangefinder lenses, two kit Olympus lenses with 4/3 bayonet (not m4/3) and a bunch of manual lenses with M42 thread. I believe any of these can be used only as super telephoto ones dues to the huge crop factor (~6). So I want to find a 8mm film movie lens - this format should be much more usable with tiny action camera sensors.

Is this S- to C-mount adapter or you glued the mount to the camera body?

          • #13
it's hard to get m12 to c-mount in an Indonesian store. I just installed the C mount into the body with the C-mount macro extension tube. body cover, also change mount bctv lens with the same material.
oh yeah ... mount m12 in s5 is shorter than yi2k .... including the lens length

Cool! Could you show the lens mount more closer? Without the cover. Thanx.

So you removed the front panel and drilled a hole in it to fit that C-mount extender?
            Working...
