  • Hawkeye Firefly Split cam custom firmware and hw mods.

Hi there. I've got the Split FPV cam from Hawkeye Firefly and now I'm working on customizing it for the dashcam use.

    First thoughts:
    - The f2.8 default lens is ok for FPV (acts like embedded ND) but quite dark for dashcam. I'm going to try it with f1.8 and brighter lenses.
    - 'Split' design is good for solving some problems like overheating and hidden installation.
    - Variable input voltage is very handy for dashcam use.
    - more to come after tests...

MOD1 first tests. AE settings adjusted for better low-light performance. Lens changed to this one (f=4mm f1.2).

One more low-light test. The f1.2 lens. AE adjustments. Probably I should decrease saturation in future MODs.

                  Implemented a new feature.

It's very handy for using with different lenses to get the right exposure.

Thank you! I don't have a Runcam 5 to compare with.

Manufacturers should send you test units too for the work you do. Also, can you do something to the site, I can't subscribe or edit posts with the javascript disabled...

Having javascript disabled in 2019 isn't the right way to go. The web is based on modern technologies like HTML5, CSS3 and JS nowadays.

Daylight test with 12Mp f2.0 lens and tweaked AE settings (note AE speed and highlights handling).

Nice work! Really good in a low light - low noise. Nice lens - no notable distortion. Can you estimate the FOV compare to the stock lens?
And 12MP - you can build a High resolution dashcam! Some people interested to see the license plates from a long distance. (needed to increase the bitrate in 4KšŸ˜Ž)

And IMHO the AE jumping to much with every white car or when moving against the sun
