  • Auto white balance (Winait 8mm Film Scanner / Wolverine Reels2Digital Moviemaker)

This device has been mentioned in these forums before - a film scanner based on the NT9665x chipset (AR0330 sensor) which is functionally a camera; it advances a reel of 8mm film past the sensor and chain the series of single frame captures into a h264 video. Sold under many names including Winait and Wolverine.

The film is advanced over a LED backlit plate with constant temperature / brightness. For some reason the manufacturer have seemingly locked the white balance to the 'auto white balance' algorithm which does a poor job in most circumstances and leaves a red tint to the picture.

To verify that the device is using auto white balance I found the values for the manual white balance table ( https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?show...#entry61707813 ) in the firmware and modified every entry - no change to the picture.

I wonder if anyone knows where the setting to select auto white balance is? If I can change that to a manual white balance entry I can tweak the values in the white balance table and hopefully get a useful result.

    Original, unmodified firmware: http://retromania.pandelground.com/w...N_original.zip (from http://retromania.pandelground.com/w...tal-moviemaker )

    Thanks!
