Howdy. These cameras may be out of fashion, but I'm so curious if anyone know something about these Novatek based cams and if video quality is decent and if the anti-shake (gyro EIS) works well enough.

The AN5000 is also called the N5 (without any letters after "5").

The support section of the andoer website has only a file link for the AN7000 (ambarella a12). Of course I would want any possible firmware updates for either or both of these cameras.

I guess these these cameras have mostly been "left behind" by Andoer and by the action camera community, and other brand names of Novatek cams such as Soocoo, Hawkeye and of course SJCAM offer much better support -- including manuals, firmware and whatnot online.

What do you think about these cams?

I looked these too, but after I bought and did not receive my Q5H. They sound certainly attractive ... They all seem to come from the same place ...Sorry if I'm wrong, but, with or without a brand, they seem to come from this site:
    - AN 5000 :
    - N5A :

Maybe we could make a joint order and ask them for acustom firmware or update... With just charging us what they say is worth as market price, (see) many of us, we would buy maybe a joke, but it could be ....

In these cameras, it should also be very interesting how you change the different angles of lens

yes. true. this is possible in the above Andoer cameras, Soocoo C30 / C50 (maybe other Soocoo cameras too), and in Firefly 7s.

very similar to the Andoer AN5000 / HDKing N5, but with a two-buttons remote control
so it could be kind of Soocoo C30R clone

Generic SJ8000 / Extral SJ9000 Novatek NTK96660 camera. Firmware might be older, 2015 or 2016. Caution: but some Elecam Explorer Elite firmware may work.
It could be the "father" or maybe "grandfather" of budget clone Novatek cameras.

MGCOOL Explorer 1S and ElE Explorer Elite are same and use SJ8000/SJ9000 parts.
The ElE Explorer Pro V1.0/RV2.0 and SooCoo C30/C30R use HT10 labelled circuit boards and are same as CUTUO CS96 cam with WIFI remote.

ElE Explorer Pro V1.0 same but had no remote and different firmware (FW96660A.bin)
          ElE Explorer Pro RV2.0 (FWHT108M.bin)

Well practically the same as what I took as hardware the 4k leshp. In the end, they brandy differently but hardware is the same. I'm still doing tests and the best moving results are obtained with fixed parameters (iso - exposure - etc ..). Today I did other test videos and they came very well. I'm really happy with this cam action, the gyro is very good!

diab58 - where in the world is firmware for these cams? I even searched "прошивка" (means "firmware") in 4pda (russian) forums and in English in Dashcamtalk forums.

      • #10
Hi, I found several firmware for the novatek chip, but not for the AN5000 of andoer. I'm doing research on various Russian sites, but so far I have not found anything. If I find the firmware for these cams I tell you.

Then a clue I found and where the AN5000 firmware is said to be probably the same as the SJ5000X.

          This is the translated text:

Just switched on the cam emits a short sound that immediately reminds me of the SJcam like the SJ5000X and SJ4000. This action cam is therefore virtually a clone of the SJ5000X inherits processor and sensor, and probably the firmware (and perhaps even 5000 in the AN5000). The difference is that this Andoer costs half and arrives with the already comfortable carry case and orderly storage of the cam and all the accessories. So let's see if the video tests are at the height of the SJ5000X, and if the defects of the latter are exceeded (first, the bad audio). If that were the case, this cam will prove to be a bargain, at only 52 € you may have a SJ5000X overwhelmed but without the typical defects of that cam, plus a pretty briefcase.

      • #11
Well, today I had fun with the lathe and I built a cap for the action cam lens, completely made of rubber and fits very well. Based on these construction experiments, I will soon build an adapter for mounting filters of 37 mm (UV, etc.). Let's see what goes out.

Here is the screen of the SJ5000X and the sliding pages are the same as my LESHP which is a reminder of the andoer N5A with front screen or AN5000 without a screen back.

Well, I still found other clues to the firmware. My LESHP 4K firmware I purchased is the version: 20170324 v2.0
On a page about the SJCAM SJ6, it mentions updates on various firmware versions including 20170324. Now this cam action has the panasonic and not sony sensor so it can not possibly be applied. They have probably altered the firmware of the SJs and applied it to the AN5000 ando other brands.

cool info! thanks. You're saying that the SJ6 has a Panasonic MNxxxx sensor. but the AN5000 has an "Sony IMX078"? yeah? Well, I have not tried before, but without disassembling the camera, how can we confirm which sensor is really there. hm, maybe use reverse engineering/hacking software for Novatek firmware, available in other topic threads.

I got the AN5000 today from Aliexpress. Firmware is 20170417 V2.0.

But still testing it. I just hope the video quality and color saturation (even without gyro, without anti-shake) are decent, like the Firefly 7s.

Take for example the F68 generic action camera: it has somewhat poor video, something like real cheap cam but it has a ~$60 price tag. I'm surprised to see the F68 video in 1080p60fps is so pixelated / blocky compared to an Eken H9 / or ThiEye i60 / or Q3H (Allwinner V3).

Again!....I am looking for a waterproof case (housing) that fits this camera exactly. The camera and case are similar to Eken H8 or Firefly 7s but the AN5000 lens-ring is bigger and won't fit. Also, the camera "thickness" is between an Eken H8/Firefly 7s AND a SJ4000, so no case that I have tried fits exactly, and there are two buttons on the side. I don't have one, but maybe an Eken H9 case could fit. Hm, I wonder ...

            Hello Pete,

I understand that you a looking for a housing for your Andoer AN5000?
If it's not too late I have one. I cannot use it anymore because I tried to upgrade the Firmware of my cam and bricked it. As I cannot find an original firmware for this cam, it is unusable.

qqvalou - thanks for the offer. but I sold my AN5000 months ago...mostly because I had scratched the front of the waterproof housing (case) and could not find another original housing. I purchased a YAGOO7 (Extral SJ8000) Novatek 96660 as a replacement for the AN5000, and the YAGOO7 uses common (and cheap) SJ4000 cases.
