It's available on Amazon under several different 'brand' names: Crosstour, ieGeek, COOAU, Apexcam, WONGKUO, Supkiir (mine), CrazyFire and TOPmountain.

Here I'll list its interesting features, post some videos and stills shot with this cam and share hacks that would work with this hardware solution.
Donate here if you want to support my efforts and this site.

Email me if you have any offers, requests or ideas.

Thanks nutsey for the item link on Aliexpress. Today, I purchased this as the " Leadedge LE7000 " for USD ~ $38.99. Here is a full review but it's in Japanese. https://youtu.be/8CqeXvgN5Gc

another full review, and with test clips, hm also in Nihongo desune. https://youtu.be/YlIAJ4-33ok

Manual pages in PDF - http://pc.cd/zkf7

Also purchased another labeled RICH Mstar N800R and "M80" shows in the firmware - http://pc.cd/pvzctalK

Actually I had just posted in another thread asking what these cameras are before I saw this one. I'm particularly interested in them because of the external mic option for under $50.

I just ordered one to test it out, it was $42 from Amazon, excited to test it. "HyphenX M80" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HH3B2YD/

I'd love to see some of your samples in the meantime!

I think they are all the same.

Except for crosstour, their cam is double the price, but it has buttons on the side, the others do not have those buttons. I'm not sure if anything else is different between them.

Add to this list: Dragon Touch Vision 4

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GZNFNYM/

Looks more like an Eken cam but it seems to be the same menus as other Mstar cams here.

EdiI did finally get mine, and it's... err... not great.

Every 3rd frame is doubled at 4k. 4k IS is 3200x1800 with every 2nd and 3rd frame doubled. White balance is an issue as you can see in the still pics I've uploaded. 2.7k and 1080p both look like they're scaled up from 480p.

I suppose it's about what I expected, but I was hoping for better because cheap + external mic is a combination a lot of people are interested in. Even usable 1080p would have made this cam worthwhile.

    ----

Video samples from the HyphenX M80, most are with external mic, only the 4K 30 EIS has the cameras mic. Download for uncompressed versions since Dropbox butchers video. I also contacted the seller to see if they would send me firmware, but no dice, they do not have it.

Check your camera IP: Ambarella cams should have 192.168.42.1, yours probably has 192.72.1.1.

It looks like almost every cheap cam around $35 - $45 with an external mic on Amazon is M-star now. Several of the top listings on Amazon include these cams. I'm making a video about this right now because the fake reviews on these cams are a HUGE PROBLEM. When is Amazon going to step in and do something about these reviews?

              • Pictures of UI show M-star UI
              • This one is clearly using review manipulation, it has over a hundred 5-star reviews all with terrible image samples like this:

            • Apeman A79: https://amazon.com/dp/B07S1CX21W/
              • From YT reviews I watched, does not seem to have as bad colour issues as other M-star cams, but same UI and very poor detail
              • 750 reviews, 4.5* average. Many older reviews feature "samples" with DSLR professional photos not taken by this cam.

This is just checking the first 3 pages on Amazon. I'm sure there are more

DrekiTech . Good catch on the many bad Mstar cams. I watched your whole 'scamazon' video and damn! that was very well
              done. 😃

To all who are reading this and googling/searching for cameras online - You all gotta watch this video. It's very accurate and informative.

Have you also noticed 'scamazon' tactics for other low-end hardware such as Allwinner V3 cam or Sunplus/iCatch SCPA6350 cams?
I mean I've seen "brands" like DBPower and Akaso remake the Eken H9 (with SCPA6350) over and over.

petesimon My best guess is these sellers are taking the cheapest cameras they can buy and say "4K". Now Mstar is less expensive to buy versus V3s and more feature rich so Mstar is going to be very common as Scamazon Cams. Previously these generic rebrands would usually be V3s, or if you got lucky either V3 or SPCA6350. Sometimes the really low end Novatek AVI cameras if you were REALLY unlucky. All of them have tons of fake reviews.

Akaso, for example, started off selling the generic SPCA6350 and although it was flawed, at the time it was a better rebrand. An aggressive marketing tactic made them one of the top sellers. Now it seems like they at least put a little bit of effort into firmware improvements versus most of these brands who are just pumping out generics as fast as they can silkscreen their brand on the case. Akaso doesn't (yet) sell any Mstar cams so maybe someone at their company actually tests these cameras before buying a lot to make sure they're good enough. But who knows really. I'm just making up guesses.

These fake review techniques exist at all levels in the marketplace, from your cheapie $30 cams to $100+. It exists in all categories too, action cams, home goods, food products...
