  • Pega S350 SOC?

Was looking at the MGCool Explorer Pro 2 and noticed it seems to be based on an IMX179 + a unique SOC, Pega S350.

Funny thing, I saw this "review" of the camera which showed some screenshots of the camera UI and it looks just like the new SJCam stuff.

What do you think? Have you tried it yet?

Today, we'll review the new Explorer Pro 2. With touchscreen capability and the ability to film 1080p, all for under 50, it offers great value for money!

'Qlippie Q1' is set by default in Allwinner SDK. So, it's good old V3.

Maybe MGCOOL want to change the SoC in future Pro2 batches... We'll see...

Neat, great sleuthing. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a V3, or perhaps a rebrand/license of it? Or maybe they just wanted to sound... Cool...

This MGCOOL Explorer Pro 2 touch screen camera performs and behaves very much like a "F60B" Crane IMX179 Allwinner V3(s) camera, except there is the touch screen feature which actually works quite well and looks good. The cam has Android inside, and ADB works. When connecting USB cable, there is only charge mode, and nothing else.

Touch screen events are probably processed via tslib (libts) by using these files: /lib/libts-0.0.so.0 and /etc/ts.conf and maybe others. On my cam, touches are not centered on menu items but a bit too low the item I want to activate. Hm, could we change touch screen settings in ts.conf and (re)-calibrate the touch screen ??

Video bit-rates are similar to other Allwinner V3(s) Crane cameras, and 4k mode seems to be 3840 x 2160p at 20fps (but not 25 fps). Here are some video samples. And the JPG photo files have EXIF data showing "ImageDescription - This photo is taken by AllWinner's v3-sdv". Haha where is the advertised Pega S350 ?!?

One-finger swipe-down on the video record screen and photo taking screen will display three options (like a smartphone): enable wifi, lock, or power off.

So all this hype "Pro" just for touch screen and a "shark Lens" is the lens any better? more light? less distortion? I found an older MGcool "explorer 4k" for $25 why pay extra? Lost in the sea of fake 4k from $9 to $99.... I might just buy the Elephone REXSO Explorer K HiSilicon with real 4k when its on sale again.

The "Sharkeye" lens is very good.

TINTEC appears to be another touch screen Allwinner V3 (or possibly a different Vx chipset).
