  • Budget camera advice

Hi, hopefully i'm posting this in the correct forum.

I am looking for an action camera in the $40 to $60 USD range that can film in TRUE 1080p, and handles low light conditions well.

What is the best image sensor for this application?

Here are some video samples, this one is a camera we tried and do not like, the quality is very poor, the Lightdow LD6000
    https://bid13.com/storage-auctions/w...mpia/unit-d051

What sensor is this camera? it claims to be 12MP, i think this is bullshit.

I am looking for a camera that can produce this sort of quality:

    in the budget specified.

    Is that possible?

GitUp Git1 I mentioned above with this f1.2 lens will do the job: http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/bKLrdjLS

      Thank you for your reply!

How does that lens attach to the camera? does it just snap in place? or do you need to take the camera apart to install it? I am drop shipping these cameras out to my vendors, and I can't really expect them to modify the camera.

Also, what is the image sensor and processor chipset used in that Git1?

I see. In this case don't bother changing the lens. The stock one is good enough.

The Git1 has Novatek NT96655 + Sony IMX322 inside. BTW, how many cams are you planning to buy?

I could also tweak the firmware for you for better low-light shooting.

Thanks. Seems like a strange combo. Correct me if i'm wrong but, an image sensor capable of 4k but a processor that is not?

      > BTW, how many cams are you planning to buy?
Unclear, we generally buy them to request as we grow as a company. As more facilities join us to use our services, or when older facilities request new cameras. We purchase more cameras every year as we grow, last year was about 50 cameras, this year will be more like 75. I haven't yet ordered them in bulk because our head office is located in Canada and most of our vendors are located in United States. So it has been quite a lot cheaper (and much faster) to drop ship direct from Amazon.

But It certainly is tempting to do a bulk order if we could get a good price, this would also let us tweak the firmware as you suggest, and perhaps even add our logo as the camera boot logo (lol).

Looks extremely good for a $50 dash cam. Is this also with the lens you suggested? Now you're making me want to upgrade my dashcam (Viofo A119), it seems that this is the same company as GitUp??

How are you modifying the firmware? decompiling it and recompiling it? or do you have actual sources?

The low lights make noises anyway. Maybe better to buy a small compact camera with bigger sensor. The main problem with sport cam in low light is the sensor size. Small sensor generate much more noise than bigger sensor. Also you can edit your footage on pc. Sometimes that will better than the stock original factory noise reduction.

Both are capable of 1080p30 only.

"add our logo as the camera boot logo (lol)."
      Absolutely doable.

"Is this also with the lens you suggested?"
I believe it was stock or something very close to it.

"dashcam (Viofo A119), it seems that this is the same company as GitUp??"
Yep. Former Shenzhen Haotek Technology Co. Limited. I can ask these guys for a discount for you in case of a bulk deal.

"How are you modifying the firmware? decompiling it and recompiling it? or do you have actual sources?"
This is what my goprawn.com site about in general. And no, unfortunately I don't have any specific sources for this cam, but I know how to improve its performance by modifiyng the firmware binary.

Probably need to increase your budget above $60, especially for small sized action cameras
