  • Eken h9r video above 1080p60 seems weird

Just bought eken h9r. 1080p and 720p is fine.
But when trying 2.7k or 4k, the quality is weird.
    It is pixelated

Is this something ok or is this because of my card\?

    i have a 16gb class10 pretty cheap card.

This cam uses H.264/AVC compression for 1080 and below. Higher resolutions are encoded with Motion JPEG codec with something like 40 or 60% (I don't remember the exact number) quality setting.

Looks like some kind of low quality 4:2:0 chroma subsampling was used here...

Interesting because anything below 2.7k is not that pixelated

        No, it's not your card.

Check properties/details of the 2.7k and 4k video files. You'll see very old and ineffective MJPEG compression there. That's why the image looks pixelated and blocky. The most of cams based on this hardware have same problems due to hw limitations.

HashVolt - MJPEG codec used in 2.7k mode often produces jagged edges, blocks and artifacts. This results in a poor image. Also, the 4k mode is interpolated (fake) due to hardware limitations. You get what you pay for 😉

play the video files in VLC or MPC-BE media player software and use the "snapshot" or "Save image" function of the software to save a 100% JPG image file, and upload it to google drive (this preserves the original file quality), and share the public link of the file here. You also could use an image hosting site that preserves the original file quality. https://ibb.co/album/i01dQa

Anyway, 1080p / 30fps is probably the best mode overall in cheap action cameras.

Thanks! Woh, it's so blurry. you sent me an 8.3 megapixel JPG file, probably from a 4k video. In some Eken cameras, the 4k video is really fake, and 5 megapixel or bigger photos are also fake. The sensor hardware is limited to about 4 megapixels.

      Found out something...

This model of the EKEN h9r is a new one. The box is a little different. Why? Because it now records at 4k 30 fps instead of 25. Also the 12 megapixel is now 20.

4K30fps no wonder why the quality is crappy. I wish there was firmware that could bring back 4k25 fps...

knowing how Eken do things, it's probably 720 interpolated to 4k

If I spin myself, the camera video looks even better. 🔁🌀😜
