My camera also just arrived. No problems with the SD card (Kingston 64 Gb card @ 80Mb/s), it works fine for me.

Yes, it does have a menu setting for H.265

    Hi!

    The software version is 20171103-V5.1

You can download some video samples here: https://mega.nz/#F!4N9gBADB

I did not have the time to test all combinations, but it seems that it can't handle H.265+1080x60fps (H.265+1080x30 is OK). Also note that in some of the samples the lens was not clean. I cleaned it for the last two of them and the difference is quite noticeable

Your FW is older than i found, 2018-04-26. Could be interesting to test, but we need a working dump of original FW 20171103-5.1. Who knows, maybe there are some fixes... https://fex.net/917185981178

I've watched your samples too, agree, H.265_StabiON_1080X30_CleanLens.MOV is H.264, but "H.265_StabiON_1080x60_NotSoCleanLens.MOV" is REALLY H.265 and it's 60 fps. The H.265 codec you can recognize with "dotted" picture, the H.264 is more "squared", so i do believe it was a real H.265 on 60 fps. Waiting for 4K test... Thanks a lot!

Same revision as mine (20171103-V5.1). This is original factory firmware.
ThiEYE E7 original f/w release TI/UN8-171102-V5.0 Has BT but no H.265 Encode setting.

Dears, what do you think about Dual battery charger to Vikcam/Akaso/ThiEYE here: https://www.geekbuying.com/item/Orig...er-391672.html = 4,99 and remote control here: https://www.geekbuying.com/item/Orig...er-391671.html = 3,99? I've ordered Remote control for 3,99 with coupon few days ago, and thinking about Charger... It's not so comfortable to charge two batteries inside the camera. AFAIK, both of these devices are not included in Vikcam v50 kit.

Bought this dual charger. Lot cheaper than ThiEYE (same, just no logo). Also have the Original Virtoba Bluetooth 4.0 Remote which is same as ThiEYE "REMO" remote.
The ThiEYE T5 EDGE comes with the "VOCE" remote which has a microphone included (near the LED)
      .

And... I remembered where I've found the new FW for Vikcam V50, it's here: http://blog.geekbuying.com/2018/04/v...rmware-updated. Read the "release notes", it is said about remote control also (so the new buyers have to flash it if they have FW from year 2017). Also there is an EIS calibration! Good luck for owners and waiting for your posts! ;-)

Better firmware for Vikcam V50 is Akaso V50 ( from https://fex.net/917185981178 ). I checked it, it's work. There is bluetooth and (I guess) litter better working with usb.

I can't see any trouble. I guess it has more stable USB connection with PC, and there is BT for remote control (no BT in stock firmware). With Akaso firmware camera isn't hangs (like original Vikcam firmware). No differences in menu or something else (except BT and start pic).

MGCOOL Explorer 3 and Akaso V50 Pro are 99% the same camera. I have the M E 3. I flashed Akaso "H265_20180605" firmware to my M E 3. The image and sound are quite nice, especially considering that I paid $80 on Gearbest. Everything works and I see some improvements in the menus. I made a short video about it and wrote up some instructions. Sometime but later I will make a new thread and post more information...

*** I am not responsible for your bricked camera. Proceed at your own risk. ***

      click this link - https://youtu.be/EKUMWh54_jk

      Code:
      1. power ON your MGCOOL Explorer 3 camera

      2. goto System -> System Info screen and read the firmware version
you should see this text or similar text

          BSP-07.00.07
          BaseFW: 28950
          HOST: 15752
          E3 VER:0.0.2

      3. If do not see that information then STOP and leave the camera as it is.
or you can continue... and now power OFF your MGCOOL Explorer 3 camera

      4. download "AKASO_V5- Pro_H265_180605.rar" file from Amazon Cloud you see in
the tutorial video or download the file from my link

      http://pc.cd/nKErtalK

      5. unpack/unrar the downloaded file, and copy the SPHOST.BRN file to an sdcard

      6. camera battery charge should be %50 or more, and insert sdcard into camera
          and power on camera

      7. you will see "FW update" screen and wait about 1 minute and 30
seconds +/- 15 seconds, the camera will power off itself when finished

      8. be sure camera power is OFF, and remove sdcard from camera and make sure SPHOST.BRN file is deleted from sdcard
by checking the sdcard in a computer

      9. power ON camera and goto System -> System Info screen again and read the
firmware version. you should see this exact text

         V50 Pro

Vikcam V50 has H.265 option in menu under 'Encode' and no BT but ThiEYE E7 does not have the H.265 option but has BT. Obviously iCatch release a full version to manufacturers so why do they continually delete options. LED 1,2,3,4 or OFF also deleted. Unbelievable.

I received my Vikcam V50 from geekbuying $59.99 USD. Link here. It's working quite okay. It has h264 (avc) and h265 (hevc) video encoding, and EIS (gyro) is nice. Otherwise, it's practically the same as a ThiEye T5 EDGE or Akaso V50 camera (but without remote controller). Akaso V50 firmware will work fine but ThiEye firmware will make the LCD white or otherwise brick the Vikcam. 4k 30fps h265 video is about 40 Mb/s bit rate. 1080p 60fps h265 is okay but not so good, esp when compared to 1080p 60fps from Firefly 8s or ThiEye T5e.

Here are links to working firmware: Vikcam 20180426 http://pc.cd/Q2d || Akaso 20180329 http://pc.cd/eQd
      - Note: the Vikcam archive file has "FRM.exe" flash tool in a "download" folder. It's for PC Windows.

Recovery mode is possible by doing these steps:
      1. install " icatch_v2000.exe " drivers file.
      2. REMOVE BATTERY from camera. very important!
      3. be sure that USB cable is DISconnected first, and press and HOLD OK (shutter) button
      4. connect usb cable to camera and computer, while still holding OK (shutter) button
      5. continue to hold OK (shutter) button, and press the power (mode) button one time.
      6. you should see two new sunplus icatch usb devices in Device Manager (now release all buttons)
      7. See this PDF file - http://pc.cd/NOk - and run FRM.exe tool

The manuals for Akaso, ThiEye T5 EDGE and Vikcam V50 cams are similar. So here are links to manuals PDF: Akaso V50 http://pc.cd/VLu7 || ThiEye T5 EDGE http://pc.cd/5UlctalK

Video samples, h265, 4k 30fps, 1080p 60fps, and others here - http://pc.cd/z4w7 - you must download the file first and play it in VLC / MPC-BE / SMPlayer / etc.

        cool

yeah, i want to use 'medium' quality video setting and h265 codec in Akaso "H265_20180605" firmware in my MGCOOL Exp 3 because the bit rate is fixed at 60 Mb/s, and I don't need that much data or "high" quality when using h265. So I want 'medium' quality video setting to conserve space on the sdcard.
        - same for my Vikcam V50 using either Vikcam firmware or Akaso firmware.

Sony IMX078 is not so brilliant, it's old but stable and it's 12MP which is enough for real-4K. I think I will not have EIS in 4K resolution and no H.265 at all with A12S75. I wish my Vikcam V50 arrived, but unfortunately haven't. Better functions, support, fresh firmware with function updates...

IMX078 is nice, but IMX117 is technically better. and I think can notice the difference but not 100% sure. anyway, i always prefer a Sony IMX sensor over a Panasonic MN sensor. For comparison of all sensors mentioned, take different Eken A12 cameras, for example Eken H8 Plus (IMX117), Eken V8s (Panasonic MNxxx), Eken H8 Pro (IMX078).
