  • Amkov AMK7000S action camera, SPCA6350, OV4689, FPV av out

I was curious to see what quality of video can a Sunplus 6350 SoC with an OV4689 sensor could be made. I was more interested in a different kind of clone of the Eken H9. I looked at the iMars H9+ and the Geekam W9 and some others, but I could not find firmware downloads for those cameras. So I got this camera from Aliexpress seller for ~$46 USD, and I found firmware downloads from Gearbest blog and from Banggood forums. However, my camera already has firmware version 1.20 and the latest firmware file I could find was version 1.09, so I did not update it.

A remote control is included. Videos modes up to 1080p 60fps have a bit rate of about 22 Mbps, but 2.7k and 4k modes have a bit rate of about 60 Mbps. I recommend using a U3 speed sd card in the camera if you want to record 2.7k or 4k, but beware that those modes are MJPEG codec and look a bit too sharp and strange. FPV av out is available by choosing TV out ON in the settings menu and using a USB av out cable...the same one from Banggood that works with a SJCAM 4000. There is no High/Low bit rate option, and no Fixed Framerate option and no other nice fancy options that you may find in Novatek camera (such as the Firefly 7s). However, there is a Image Stabilizer option but I see only a minor difference in video shakiness. Audio is AAC compressed and sounds quite good, without any intense ringing / hissing / buzzing noise.

The waterproof case seems to be a GoPro Hero 4 or maybe an Eken H3 case, and the battery is a GoPro Hero 4 AHDBT-401.

    The Wifi app is " AMK-ICAM ".

Another Wifi app " CACWF " for the Cherry Action Cam also works.

The 60fps modes are fake. Here are "60 fps" modes framerate problems :

In LOW LIGHTING scene, the frame rate in 1080p 60fps AND 720p 60fps is fake, because almost every frame but not every frame is duplicated. So the real frame rate is maybe ~32 fps or something like that (but duplicated and stored as = "60fps"). The Gyro/EIS ON or OFF, doesn't matter. The LowLightMode ON or OFF, doesn't matter. The frame pattern for fake "60fps" video modes in LOW LIGHTING is shown below:

    as frame-groups labeled as letters:
    A A B B C C D D E, A A B B C C D D E, (repeat)

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In MODERATE (medium) LIGHTING scene, the frame rate in 1080p 60fps and 720p 60fps is fake, because several frames are duplicated. So the real frame rate is maybe ~40 fps or something like that (but duplicated and stored as = "60fps"). Gyro/EIS ON or OFF, doesn't matter. LowLightMode ON or OFF, doesn't matter. The frame pattern for fake "60fps" video modes in MEDIUM LIGHTING is shown below:

    as frame-groups labeled as letters:
    A B C D E E, A B C D E E, (repeat)

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In BRIGHT LIGHTING scene, the frame rate in 1080p 60fps and 720p 60fps is fake, because several frames are duplicated. So the real frame rate is maybe ~50 fps or
something like that (but duplicated and stored as = "60fps"). Gyro/EIS ON or OFF, doesn't matter. LowLightMode ON or OFF, doesn't matter, The frame pattern for fake "60fps" video modes in BRIGHT LIGHTING is shown below:

    as frame-groups labeled as letters:
    A B C D E F G H H, A B C D E E, A B C D E F G H H, A B C D E E, (repeat)

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However 720p 30fps, and 1080p 30fps, and 2.7k 30fps are real, and every frame is unique.

Here are unprocessed (but stream cut) video samples : http://pc.cd/CjkctalK
    - note that Avidemux cannot save MJPEG codec inside a MP4 file, so I saved MKV files for MJPEG codec data.

Overall the camera is good enough and worth my ~$46 USD. But for about $20 more, the Firefly 7s or similar Novatek camera may have real 60 fps and is overall significantly better.
